Description

Scripture presents the relationship between God and humanity as a long narrative spanning from creation to eschaton. There are different ways to narrate that history though, and different ways in which we tell the story of God and humanity not only lead to different theological positioning, but also to different forms of spirituality, liturgy, et cetera. This course aims to reconstruct what story John Calvin had in mind when he wrote his theological treatises. How does Calvin see history moving from creation to the eschaton; what role does he see for Israel, Jesus, the church; and how does all of this shape a particular form of spirituality and way of life?
