Description

Proceeding form the distinct but related theoretical vantage points of public theology and contextual ministry, this course explores ethical thinking and ethical decision making in connection with issues related to urban development, urban fractures, urban vulnerability, racial and social injustice, and globalization. Specific consideration is given to the relationship between faith, theology, the church, and the city; community-based urban engagements; theories and practices of urban change; the impact of globalization on the views and conduct of congregations, church denominations, and ecumenical organizations; and theologies and practices of racial equality, empowerment, and justice. This course will focus on the inmterplay and applications of public theology and contextual ministry discourses and practrices within the South African context.
